Commodities we mine

The global battery revolution and transition to green energy continues to spur the demand for copper and cobalt . Chemaf is capitalising on these growth opportunities by expanding its mining and processing capacities.

COPPER

Output capacity: 75,000 tonnes of LME Grade A copper cathode per annum.

COBALT

Output capacity: Over 20,000 tonnes of cobalt hydroxide per annum.

Operations

Chemaf has an expansive footprint in the DRC. We are currently expanding our existing Etoile operation and building a world class large scale mine and processing plant at our Mutoshi concession. To date, we have invested over US$570 million in these assets with a remaining spend of US$250-300 million through to production.

Etoile Mine

A leading source of copper and cobalt hydroxide
A leading source of copper and cobalt hydroxide recognised as the world’s fourth-largest cobalt mine in 2019 with an integrated ISO9001-certified processing plant. Chemaf brought Etoile mine into production in 2007 and its existing processing plan has been in operation since 2017

Mutoshi Mine
Sealing Chemaf’s position as a leading cobalt producer
The Mutoshi development in Kolwezi is at the heart of Chemaf’s ambitious growth plans. Mutoshi is a large-scale copper-cobalt project at an advanced stage of development. This project comprises a fully mechanised open-pit mine and a state-of-the-art integrated processing plant with a capacity of 50,000 tpa of LME Grade A copper cathodes and 16,000 tpa of cobalt contained in cobalt hydroxide. Once commissioned, Mutoshi will be Chemaf’s flagship operation, forming the foundation for future growth plans.
