LUBUMBASHI, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO – September 2026 – Chemaf is advancing construction and production readiness across its Etoile and Mutoshi copper and cobalt operations, as the company moves closer to bringing both assets into production under its new ownership.
Since the ownership transition in March 2026, work has accelerated across both sites, supported by fresh investment, the mobilization of major international contractors and equipment suppliers, and strengthened technical and project oversight.
Etoile and Mutoshi are now in the final stages of their development programs, with construction across both projects substantially advanced. Chemaf is preparing to begin mining activity ahead of processing, building up ore availability so that the operations are positioned to ramp up efficiently once their processing facilities are commissioned.
Building Two Significant Copper and Cobalt Operations
At Etoile, near Lubumbashi, work is progressing on the expansion of the existing operation and completion of its new processing facilities. Construction activity is continuing across the site alongside mine planning and drilling work as Chemaf prepares the operation for its next phase.
Once fully operational, Etoile will be capable of an annual production of approximately 20,000 tonnes of copper and 4,000 tonnes of cobalt.
At Mutoshi, near Kolwezi, construction is similarly advancing across the processing facilities and supporting infrastructure. Major equipment suppliers and engineering contractors have returned to the project, with work progressing across key areas of the development as Chemaf prepares the mine and plant for operations.
Mutoshi’s total annual nameplate capacity is approximately 55,000 tonnes of copper and 20,000 tonnes of cobalt.
Strengthening Technical Oversight
Chemaf has brought together international contractors, equipment suppliers and independent technical specialists to support the completion and ramp-up of both projects.
Independent consultants have been appointed to support technical oversight, project management and mine planning at Mutoshi, alongside the specialist engineering and construction teams working across Chemaf’s operations.
This combination of investment, operational expertise and independent technical oversight is supporting Chemaf’s focus on bringing both assets into production safely and efficiently, while establishing the foundations for reliable long-term operations.
As global demand for responsibly produced critical minerals continues to grow, Chemaf is working to develop Etoile and Mutoshi into significant and reliable sources of copper and cobalt from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The progress across both sites represents the next stage of Chemaf’s turnaround under new ownership, moving from the restart of construction toward production and long-term operations.
