LUBUMBASHI, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO – September 2026 – Chemaf welcomes the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s decision to establish a DRC-USA Task Force to accelerate implementation of the strategic minerals partnership between the DRC and the United States.
Approved by the Council of Ministers on 11 September, the Task Force is intended to help translate commitments made under the partnership into concrete economic and security outcomes for the Congolese people.
The partnership is already supporting increased U.S.-linked investment in the DRC’s critical minerals sector. The acquisition of Chemaf by U.S.-based Virtus Minerals has been identified as one of the investments associated with this growing relationship, with the DRC Ministry of Mines approving the ownership transition in March 2026.
Chemaf welcomes the creation of the Task Force as a further step toward strengthening cooperation between the DRC and United States and supporting responsible, long-term investment in the country’s copper and cobalt sector.
Under its new ownership, Chemaf is progressing the development of its Etoile and Mutoshi operations, with a focus on building reliable sources of copper and cobalt while supporting Congolese employment, skills development and investment in surrounding communities.
