LUBUMBASHI, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO – September 2026 – Chemaf is building the workforce needed to develop and operate its Etoile and Mutoshi assets at scale, with 2,000 existing jobs preserved following the company’s ownership transition and a further 2,000 contractors supporting construction work across the two sites.

Preserving Chemaf’s existing workforce was a priority throughout the transition to new ownership. The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo also recognized employment stability as an expected benefit when the transaction received regulatory approval earlier this year.

As investment and development activity across Etoile and Mutoshi accelerates, an additional 2,000 contractors are now supporting the construction phase. At the same time, employees who left Chemaf during the preceding years of uncertainty are returning to the business, while experienced Congolese executives continue to hold senior positions across the company.

Investing in Congolese Skills

Chemaf is working to build on this employment base by expanding training and skills development, strengthening the Congolese expertise required to operate its assets over the long term. This approach reflects the company’s focus on investing locally and creating meaningful, long-term economic opportunities.

The importance of employment and workforce development was emphasized by Minister of Mines Louis Watum Kabamba. During a government review of progress following the takeover, the Minister highlighted the preservation of approximately 2,000 Chemaf jobs. In a separate working session with Chemaf’s new ownership, he welcomed the company’s focus on job creation and training of the Congolese workforce and encouraged continued collaboration with the Ministry as the projects progress.

As Chemaf moves through the construction phase and toward operations at scale, the company will continue investing in its workforce, developing local skills and creating opportunities around Etoile and Mutoshi.
