The New Mining Code, which was formulated with the assistance of the World Bank, came into force on 11th January 2003 and new mining regulations were issued on 26th March 2003. Since then Chemaf has been allocated 20,000 km2 Permis de Recherches (Exploration Permits) all within this mineral-rich South Eastern part of DRC. Apart from the Etoile mine Chemaf has exploitation rights on three other deposits in the area of Kolwezi. |
