Makala

Chemaf is the sole licensee of the Makala deposit. It is located 32km from Kolwezi close to the Kolwezi-Lubumbashi highway. The material here is rich in cobalt content, at 3%. The main heterogenite horizon is 1.5m thick and dips at 45 degrees to the south. It covers an area of 935 hectares.

The mineral-rich strike has been found to be 400 metres long and approximately 2 metres thick. The ore contains an average of 4% cobalt and 6.5% copper. The deposit has a potential of 90,000 tons.

This deposit is virtually un-worked and has good geological potential and produces good quality feed for the process plant. Chemaf will aim to develop a small mechanised mine as well as continue to rely on the current artisinal working.
